Giving back: InVision Software donates technologies
to support rescue efforts along US Gulf Coast

October 10, 2005

Nesconset, NY - In the wake of hurricane Katrina, which ravaged the Gulf states of the southeastern US, technology has been integral to helping rescue workers manage a chaotic environment. Many technology firms have donated their products to the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in support of their efforts, and InVision Software is no different, having donated its asset tracking and security software, as well as communication solutions, to the American Red Cross.

Mobile Asset Tracking

Rescue teams are using InVision's iCheckIt™ software on mobile devices to track assets brought into the damaged region, ensuring proper logging and distribution of these materials. iCheckIt is designed to run on Windows Mobile® devices and is capable of tracking materials via bar code scanning or magnetic stripe reading (such as those found on many US licenses and credit cards). Rescuers in the Gulf region are applying this software to manage the allocation and usage of their equipment, everything from drain hoses to bottled water, and making sure that those materials get where they are needed most.

In addition to software, mobile devices require a means to send the data they collect back to central databases located safely outside the crisis area. Rescue workers are using Ethernet cradles supplied by InVision Software to send their data collection updates, synchronizing the remote management system with exactly what assets are being used and consumed as part of the rescue efforts. This flow of communication helps make sure the right supplies are ordered, restocked, and distributed to the teams that need them most.

InVision Software proudly supports our rescue workers and applauds all agencies that are assisting to help the citizens of the hurricane-ravaged Gulf states, including the American Red Cross, FEMA, the US Coast Guard, the National Guard, and many others. InVision Software encourages private donations to hurricane relief to be sent to the American Red Cross. More information on private donations can be found at www.redcross.org.
