iDockIt™ Software Supports Additional Device Platforms

Connection utility enables leading device manufacturers a standard solution
for ethernet, modem and local host communication

July 31, 2007

Nesconset, NY – Following through on the commitment to make iDockIt available for a variety of mobile device platforms, InVision Software announced today an updated version of the connection utility that has been validated with mobile devices from Datalogic, Intermec and others.  The expanded compatibility with iDockIt enables customers to take advantage of the utility’s simple user interface for a wider variety of mobile device platforms.  Currently, iDockIt is officially validated for use on Symbol/ Motorola’s MC9000 series (and ships as part of the handheld’s operating system), and has now been approved for the PSC/Datalogic Falcon 4400 series, Intermec CN3, and select mobile device configurations from Handheld Products, Psion-Teklogix, and HP running the Windows Mobile™ 5.0 operating system.

Easing the implementation of mobile solutions

The value of the features iDockIt offers are evident for the users of over 300,000 licensed devices already deployed.  The utility eliminates some of the configuration guesswork and application modifications often encountered when implementing a mobility solution.  Specifically, the iDockIt software utility can manage multiple communication options – including instructing the mobile device on how to handle a mix of wired and wireless connections at the same time.  It can also disconnect wireless synchronization when a wired communication option such as ethernet is available and can auto-detect different connection types (network, modem, USB, serial) and perform specific actions based on the connection type it identifies.  iDockIt is a standard utility for connectivity, as opposed to “home-grown” or application specific connectivity alternatives, making it easier for mobility solution providers and manufacturers to troubleshoot.

A key component of enterprise mobility
For validated device platforms, iDockIt is tested with cradles and accessories provided by the device manufacturer, but also with third party ethernet and modem adapters (which can convert a USB or serial connection to the preferred network connection) that are gaining interest in the enterprise market and are viewed as an alternative to cradles with network connectivity built in for certain solutions.  iDockIt is designed to be a key component to help customers deploy a connected solution – regardless of connection type or the form of connection, whether a cradle, cable, or a third party adapter.
