InVision Software Launches iDockIt™ Communication Utility
New connection utility is delivered for Symbol Technologies' MC9000 series
flagship mobile device; others to follow
May 10, 2006
Nesconset, NY - Demonstrating the company's commitment to providing enterprise mobility solutions, InVision Software today announced a new communication standard for wired mobile device synchronization. The new utility, entitled iDockIt, manages mobile device connections whether via USB, serial, Ethernet, or modem, and provides configuration options to allow easy operation on today's converged devices, which offer both wired and wireless synchronization. The delivery of this solution could not have come at a better time for the mobile computing industry. Microsoft recently eliminated network synchronization for its ActiveSync software, creating the need for an alternative method for synchronization over the wired LAN - a process commonly required in enterprise-wide mobile device installations. iDockIt is initially available for Symbol Technologies' MC9000 series mobile devices, operating on the Microsoft® Windows Mobile® 5.0 and Windows® CE 5.0 operating systems, but the product is scheduled to be made available for a variety of other mobile device platforms.
The iDockIt software runs as a system tray application, which means it is always running in the background on the device, and can manage multiple communication options - including instructing the mobile device on how to handle a mix of wired and wireless connections at the same time. "iDockIt is the industry standard communication utility for mobile devices running Windows Mobile 5.0 and CE 5.0," states Joseph Spiteri, President and CEO of InVision Software, Inc. "This utility makes device and enterprise application synchronization easy for the user. It's easy to configure, and takes into account the additional synchronization requirements for today's wireless devices." iDockIt includes configuration options that can disconnect wireless synchronization when a faster, wired communication option - such as Ethernet - is available.
While iDockIt is initially being released for the MC9000 series from Symbol Technologies, InVision Software has a roadmap for iDockIt to support additional device platforms over the next three months. "iDockIt is designed for a set of operating systems, not a specific set of mobile devices," explains Spiteri. "It is our goal to make iDockIt available for various mobile device platforms in the coming months, targeting the wide selection of Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows CE 5.0-based mobile devices now entering the market."
